The winter hiking trail starts in the centre of Matrei i. O. and first leads to the Tauernbach stream. In this area, the stream is often frozen over a centimetre thick. However, you can often hear the muffled splashing and the penetrating crackling of the ice. After the Bruggerbrücke bridge, you reach the district of Bichl. The Nikolauskirche church is a particular highlight here. It is always open during the day. From the small bench next to the church, you have probably the most beautiful view of the Tauern community. Return to the starting point along the Isel.
