Sillian

Holiday destination in the Pustertal Valley

Located right on the border with Italy, Sillian is one of the largest villages in Osttirol and is also the main town in the Pustertal Valley. This enticing holiday and excursion destination lies directly at the foot of the Thurntaler, which towers majestically at 2440 meters. In the south, Sillian is bordered by the Carnic Ridge. The western municipal boundary also forms the state border between Austria and Italy.

On the sunny slopes north of the Drava, the beautiful parish church Maria Himmelfahrt watches over the centre and also the "Queen of the Pustertal", Heinfels Castle, can be spotted in the east. Not only visually, but above all thanks to the numerous recreational offers the place is a convincing destination. Hikers and adventurers will love Sillian just as much as families and those seeking relaxation.

Sillian

When the last snow has melted and temperatures are rising, Sillian turns into a true hiking paradise every year. Countless beautiful summit and hiking tours lead through striking landscapes and past numerous natural gems. Especially the Carnic Ridge in the south of the municipality provides many rewarding tour destinations. Another highlight is also south of the Drava - the Wichtelpark (Dwarf Park). Here, young and old can spend adventurous and entertaining hours. The Wichtelpark’s programme and services focus on families. In addition to a huge adventure playground, there is a high ropes course and a minigolf course.

Sillian in winter

When winter arrives in Osttirol, and with it in Sillian, ice skates can be brought out onto the ice at several locations in the town. Whether it's at one of the ice rinks in the town center or in the ice arena, skates glisten in Sillian every winter. For ski fans, the versatile Hochpustertal ski center on the Thurntaler leaves nothing to be desired and offers plenty of variety on its many slopes. When snow conditions are good, the Pustertal Valley also has a special offer: a cross-border cross-country ski trail to the small Italian town of Innichen, just a few kilometers away.

Whether in summer or winter, for hiking or skiing – in Sillian you can experience the genuine Osttirol holiday pleasure all year round.

Tip: Blue Sky Flight School. On the Thurntaler, you can take a paraglider flight down into the valley – during the flight, fantastic views of Sillian, Heinfels Castle and the Carnic Alps open up.

Sillian in summer

During the summer months, the so-called family nest programme is also very popular. Every week, there are attractive events on the programme, under the supervision of pedagogically trained child carers. The ‘Wichtelzug’ (a special train) takes you to various adventure spots, such as the Wichtelpark Sillian. For outdoor fans, Sillian offers countless possibilities anyway.

The well-known and popular Drau cycle path runs along the refreshingly cool riverbank through the market town. Beautiful huts, such as the Sillianer Hütte or the Leckfeldhütte, invite you to take a cosy break at lofty heights.
