Roast the onion in olive oil until translucent. Add garlic, paprika powder and sugar, roast briefly, add diced tomatoes and pour in some soup. Season and cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring several times, season to taste. If needed, extend soup with some clear beef or vegetable soup.
