9963 St. Jakob i. D.
St. Jakob, which, with the Swiss pine forest in Oberhauser, can count itself as one of the biggest interconnected Swiss pine forests in the East Alps, is a place where you can literally take a deep breath, thanks to the healing alpine climate. The Swiss pine, which grows very slowly, can reach an age of up to 1000 years, a diameter of up to two metres and a height of over 20 metres. Special schnapps and liqueurs are made from its cones. It is the soft Swiss pine wood which woodcarvers in the region use, almost exclusively, for their art works. Visitors can find out about this and much more about this tree from the pine tree species in the exhibition ‘Erlebnis Zirbe’ in Handelshaus St. Jakob.
