Austria's hiking villages

The magic of walking

The hiking villages play a special role in communicating the adventure of nature. In them, guests come into contact with the locals and their habitat. It enables the first contact with the landscape, acts as a hiking starting point, conveys characteristic village experiences and acts as a brochure for the landscape. As an independent, compact hiking experience product, it marks the beginning and end of a successful hiking vacation.

Osttirol is hiking country. This is demonstrated not only by the wide variety of hiking trails, long-distance hiking trails, themed trails, hiking businesses, huts and guided tours on offer, but also by the special quality of the hiking infrastructure and the hiking offer. In order to recognise this with a visible seal of quality, trails, businesses and villages in East Tyrol are certified with the Austrian Hiking Seal of Quality.

The Austrian Hiking Seal of Quality

The Austrian Hiking Seal of Quality recognises the "magic of walking" in its entirety. The interaction of the village as a hiking starting point in nature, specialised hiking hosts and the trails that capture the beauty of the landscape are essential for the perfect hiking experience. The assessment based on a catalogue of criteria clearly and comprehensibly demonstrates the potential.

A harmonious overall experience, from the village to the trails to the hosts, is the key to maintaining and improving the quality of the hiking offer in the region. The 3 units village (as the perfect starting point for a hiking experience in nature), hiking trails (as a common thread to make the individual landscape tangible) and hiking hosts (as a base camp for our specialised hosts) are viewed and certified according to a coordinated catalogue of services.

The special feature of the Austrian Hiking Seal of Quality is the assessment based on the regional guiding principle or the defined regional identity. This is at the centre of the assessment model. The central idea is the brand promise that visualises the uniqueness of the region. You could also say that it is the story that only this region can tell.
