On the banks of the glacial river Isel, in a former sawmill, a showcase project of the Art Osttirol Art Association in cooperation with the municipality of Virgen has created an open space for East Tyrol's artists - the stone sculpture workshop. Debarked trees stand upside down, massive serpentine stones from the valley are worked on - here one can often even look over the artists' shoulders live while they work. The steady, powerful flow of the last free-flowing glacial river Isel inspires the local stone sculptors and makes the shapes and cuts of their works seem to flow. They show how stones weighing several tons become artistic sculptures - how nature becomes art. Here the symbiosis of nature and art is really tangible. On request, a working bunk can be rented from a guest artist.
The adjoining sculpture park offers pleasure hikers, as well as friends of aesthetic art, the ideal opportunity to admire the works of art in the midst of unspoilt nature. At the annual "SkulpTour" symposium, a wide variety of renowned guest artists work on unique sculptures and give very personal insights into the life and work of an artist during the artist talks.
