Tour of the Alps: The Grand Finale takes place in Osttirol

The spectacular mountain backdrop of Osttirol is the scene for the last two stages of the 48th edition of the Tour of the Alps. After five challenging race days covering 739 kilometers and 14,700 meters of elevation through the most beautiful villages in the Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino Alpine region, a new winner will don the green Melinda jersey in Lienz.

While the finish of the fourth stage is in Obertilliach, the final stage both starts and ends in the East Tyrolean capital of Lienz. The last segment includes a new route that takes the riders up to Bannberg twice, as well as an extremely steep ascent to Stronach. It is quite possible that this climb will be the decisive factor in the battle for the overall victory.

In 2022, the cross-border stage race also concluded in Lienz – at that time Romain Bardet surged to first place in the overall standings after a dramatic stage marked by the triumph of his fellow countryman Thibaut Pinot.

Lienz and cycling have been a tried-and-true combination for many years. As early as 2018, the East Tyrolean capital served as the destination for a TotA stage. The Giro del Trentino, which the current tour followed about a decade ago, also made regular stops here.
